Microsoft has apparently decided that lowercase letters are for cowards, rebranding its gaming division from Xbox to XBOX. The move comes after Xbox CEO Asha Sharma ran a poll on X earlier this week asking fans whether they preferred Xbox or XBOX, and the internet - never one to miss a chance to vote for the louder option - chose XBOX. The company has already renamed its X account, though the Threads and Bluesky accounts remain stubbornly lowercase for now. Microsoft declined to comment, instead referring inquiries to Sharma's post, which is the corporate equivalent of shrugging while pointing at a poll.

This all-caps pivot is actually a return to form: the original Xbox console logo sported all caps, and Microsoft has flirted with uppercase versions for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X / S logos. The rebranding comes just weeks after Sharma scrapped Microsoft Gaming and renamed the gaming division back to Xbox, part of her ongoing "return of Xbox" initiative that has included fan-focused console updates, a new Xbox logo, Game Pass pricing changes, and a fresh boot-up animation. The reorganization aims to "build a platform that is affordable, personal, and open by staying close to the work and the people we serve," according to Sharma - which, in corporate speak, roughly translates to "we listened to the poll."
