Welcome to the Europa League final, where the stakes are high, the tension is palpable, and Aston Villa's goalkeepers are apparently held together with tape and hope. The 8pm BST kick-off is upon us, and the Freiburg lowdown suggests this might be a night for the history books - or at least the medical books.

Villa have form for goalkeeper woes in European finals. One might recall Jimmy Rimmer going into the 1982 European Cup final with a sore neck - the result of a training ground whack a couple of days prior. He lasted a heroic nine minutes before being replaced by 23-year-old substitute Nigel Spink, who then proceeded to have the match of his life. So history suggests all is not lost if Emi Martinez suffers similarly.

Speaking of Martinez: our man on the spot, Ben Fisher, reports that "the glove is now back on and he's practising claiming crosses from coaches and the other goalkeepers." So panic over, for now. But it wasn't all smooth sailing: Villa's goalkeeping coach, Javi Garcia, spent the past few minutes taping one of Martinez's fingers. The Argentinian World Cup winner is now warming up with his right glove in his left hand. He looks very mobile, but that's not exactly the ideal prep for a European final.
