Apple's HomeView Smart Display Is Already $10 Off, Because Nothing Says 'Revolutionary' Like a Tiny Discount
Apple's first smart display, the HomeView, isn't even out until November 13th, but Amazon is already knocking $10 off - because nothing says 'revolutionary' like a pre-launch discount.
Apple announced its first smart display, the HomeView, on Tuesday, and it's set to arrive on November 13th. But in a move that suggests even Apple's supply chain is feeling the heat, Amazon is already selling it for $289.99 - a full $10 off the $299 price tag. The discount applies to both the gray and the creamy white "starlight" colorway. It's a small savings, sure, but deals on new Apple devices before launch are about as common as a polite comment on the internet.
The HomeView has been described by my colleague Jennifer Pattison Tuohy as an "iPhone for your home" that looks a bit like an oversized Apple Watch. It features a seven-inch square touchscreen that can recognize up to six household members and automatically switch between personalized experiences, displaying information relevant to whoever is using it. So, essentially, it knows who you are and what you want - which is either convenient or mildly terrifying, depending on your relationship with your family.
Beyond its role as a digital butler, the HomeView doubles as a smart home hub with support for Matter and Thread. You can use it to control compatible smart home devices, view live feeds and recorded footage from HomeKit Secure Video cameras, and more. It also packs a 12-megapixel FaceTime camera for video calls, and serves as an entertainment device, letting you play music, display photos, and more. Because why have one device when you can have one device that does everything and still can't fold your laundry?
Apple's AI-powered Siri assistant is another big part of the experience, allowing you to ask questions and get information using personal context from your messages, calendar, and emails. That means you can ask it to find your lost keys, play a song someone texted you, pull up a recipe with step-by-step instructions and built-in timers, or help you keep track of your schedule without having to reach for your phone. In other words, it's the personal assistant you always wanted, minus the judgmental sighs.
Expect a full review of the HomeView in November. For now, you can preorder it at Amazon for $289.99, or at Apple and Best Buy for the full $299. Because nothing says "cutting-edge innovation" like a pre-launch price cut from a third-party retailer.
