Elon Musk is trying to own it, competing powers are trying to fight in it, and nobody seems to be regulating it. So who does space really belong to? Physicist Laura Grego has some thoughts - and they're not comforting.

Speaking at a tent in a Welsh field in May, Grego warned that public knowledge about space activities is dangerously behind. Three weeks later, SpaceX launched on the stock exchange, temporarily making Musk the world's first trillionaire. Coincidence? Probably not.

Grego notes that the average person's experience of space is about to shift dramatically. Instead of gazing at stars with wonder, you'll soon be tracking tens of thousands of new satellites - SpaceX alone has applied to launch up to 1 million of them. So much for peaceful stargazing.
