Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is slashing hundreds of jobs, because nothing says recovery like telling people to find work elsewhere. The company says fewer than 300 employees will be affected, with a promise to “support impacted colleagues” and offer voluntary early exit - which is corporate speak for “we’ll help you pack.”

This comes after a cyberattack in September 2025 that shut down all manufacturing for five months, meaning not a single vehicle rolled off the line. That little internet oopsie cost JLR an estimated £1.9 billion and caused a 27% drop in production. It also made UK car production hit a 70-year low in September, because apparently, one company can tank an entire industry’s stats.

JLR employs about 30,000 people in the UK, with another 10,000 overseas. The cuts target salaried and management roles - production line staff are safe, for now. The company is also planning to cut £1.7 billion in costs over the next few years through materials, warranty, and fixed costs, because nothing says “luxury brand” like budget cuts.

In a statement, JLR said it’s “transforming our business to improve decision-making and performance.” We’ll believe that when the cars actually get built.
