Simone Biles, the seven-time Olympic gymnastics champion, has revealed that she recently experienced a medical emergency so severe she thought she might die - which, she noted, was not part of her plans for the week.
"Almost dying wasn't on my bingo card earlier this week," Biles wrote in an Instagram story on Saturday, alongside a photo of her wrist adorned with multiple hospital bracelets. She called it "one of, if not the scariest experience of my life," adding that the ordeal was compounded by the absence of her husband, NFL player Jonathan Owens, who was away at training camp with the Indianapolis Colts.
The 29-year-old said she has been "in bed resting" and promised to share more details "sooner or later," while thanking her close circle for their support.
This isn't the first time Biles has faced serious health challenges linked to the toll of elite sport. In an interview with L'Equipe last year, she described collapsing after the 2024 Olympics and being sick for 10 days, and noted that even casual sprinting with friends now leaves her aching for days.
