Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) is gearing up for a Wednesday meeting with President Trump and the Senate Republican Steering Committee, where the topic of “election security” will be on the agenda. Scott recently urged his GOP colleagues to hold votes on the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE America) Act, which would require individuals to show proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections.

In a letter Monday, Scott expressed his support for the bill, suggesting the Senate could pass “portions” of the measure focused on the citizenship requirement. The meeting with Trump will likely center on getting the Republican caucus on the same page regarding the SAVE America Act’s approval. Trump has been pushing lawmakers in the upper chamber to pass the legislation, presumably to ensure that only verified Americans get to have a say in who runs the country.
