Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner’s eldest son, Jake Reiner, is sharing the grueling reality of navigating life after his parents were killed in what he describes as a “living nightmare.”

“I still wake up every morning having to convince myself that, no, it’s not a dream,” Jake wrote on his Substack in a post fittingly titled “Mom and Dad.” He recalls receiving a call from his sister Romy on Dec. 14 informing him that their parents were dead. “My world, as I knew it, had collapsed,” he wrote, adding, “This truly is my living nightmare.”

Jake, an actor, writer, and producer, detailed the specific losses he now faces: “My parents won’t be at my wedding, they won’t get to hold their future grandchild, and they won’t get to see me have the successful career I’m still seeking,” he wrote. “It simultaneously breaks my heart and enrages me.”

The Reiners were found stabbed to death in their Southern California home. Their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested and jailed without bail in connection with the murders, with documents from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health stating the couple died within “minutes” of receiving “multiple sharp force injuries” with a “knife, by another.” In February, Nick pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, with his next court date for a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 29.

Jake, who writes for “Honest Ads,” is struggling to process his brother’s alleged involvement. “I lost most of my family on that December night in the most violent way imaginable,” he wrote, “but having Nick be at the center of it? It’s almost too impossible to process.” He closed his post by asking for “love and compassion” as he and his sister navigate the ordeal.
