The Government of Jersey has announced that the Community Costs Bonus will now be paid in July instead of autumn, a change that has been in place for the past couple of years and will continue in 2026. Officials said the shift is intended to "help families as soon as possible with cost of living pressures," because apparently waiting until the leaves change color was not cutting it.
Eligible households will receive a one-off lump sum of £516.50, paid automatically to those whose eligibility has already been confirmed. Others can start applying for the bonus from 14 July. The rules remain the same as in 2025: applicants must have at least one adult who has lived in Jersey for five years, a combined tax liability under £2,735 in 2025, and must not be receiving income support.
The government noted that an estimated £2.466m has been allocated from existing Department for Employment, Social Security and Housing budgets to fund the scheme. So, it's not new money - just a reshuffling of the same old deck chairs on the fiscal Titanic.
