The Do Hiemon "personal cooling booth" has launched in Japan and promises to chill your body completely in just 10 minutes. How? You climb in, it cools you down, you leave. Simple as that.

Why does this thing exist? Because the world is on fire. This summer has been a relentless parade of heatwaves, with records shattered across Europe and Japan logging its first "cruelly hot" day above 40C. Humanity faces two choices: achieve net zero as fast as possible, or build a big fridge and hop inside.

The inside of the fridge is cooled to 15C, with a 5C jet of air aimed at your head, neck, shoulders, and back. The makers claim it eases heat exhaustion faster than air conditioning or a fan. And it costs just 7p an hour to run - about three times less than a toaster. The catch? It sells for about £6,900 (1.5m yen).

Still, if you run a warehouse or factory where workers endure punishing heat, or you install one in a public place like a vending machine for overheated people, it might save lives. Admit it, you want to try it. But if not, there's always the budget option: hiding between the milk trolleys at the supermarket.
