A man has been found dead as an out-of-control wildfire rages in northern Greece, prompting evacuations from the nearby village of Liti. The body was discovered in a charred area near Liti, about 15km northwest of Thessaloniki, where over 100 firefighters are battling the blaze. A woman also sustained burns to her hands after reportedly attempting to extinguish the flames herself - a move that, while brave, is not exactly recommended by fire safety experts. Hot and windy conditions are hampering efforts, with a wall of flame stretching some 5km long and still spreading. The cause of the fire, which broke out around 14:30 local time and quickly spread to a forest, remains undetermined. The region was under a high wildfire risk warning on Tuesday, with dry conditions and high winds causing repeated flare-ups. Residents of Liti were urged to flee, and Greek broadcaster ERT reported property damage as the fire advanced toward the village of Melissochori. This is Greece's latest forest fire as it approaches peak tourist season - because nothing says 'summer vacation' like fleeing a wall of flame. Wildfires have become a grim annual tradition in Greece, thanks to regular droughts and heatwaves.
