The Trimbos Institute, a Dutch drug addiction and mental health organization based in Utrecht, has issued a 'red alert' about potentially lethal ecstasy pills shaped like President Donald Trump's head. Several of these presidential party favors were handed in at testing centres in August and were found to contain a 'very high' amount of the chemical PMMA.

'Do not use this pill under any circumstance,' the institute warned, noting that the drug could cause 'overheating with potentially fatal consequences.' The pills feature Trump's visage on one side and the words 'Trump' and 'NL' stamped on the other - presumably for collectors.

PMMA, or para-methoxymethamfetamine, is chemically similar to MDMA, the active ingredient in ecstasy. However, as the institute helpfully points out, 'the effect occurs later, and the stimulating effect is often absent. This increases the risk of overdose.' So not only do you get a delayed high, but you might also get nausea, an increased heart rate, and convulsions hours after ingestion. Sounds like a great time.

Spokesperson Anniek Groothuis told the Associated Press that there have been no reported deaths or serious illnesses among users - so far. While producing, selling, and using ecstasy is illegal in the Netherlands, a 2024 government report revealed that the substance is 'still quite popular as a party drug,' with a record 550,000 people having indulged in 2022.

This isn't the first time Trump's face has graced an illicit substance. In 2017, German police confiscated about 5,000 carrot-coloured ecstasy tablets shaped like the president's head, allegedly promoted under the slogan 'Trump makes partying great again.' Clearly, someone has a branding strategy.
