Alex de Minaur has secured his 350th tour-level victory at the Vienna Open, defeating old rival Matteo Berrettini 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 in the quarter-finals of the ATP 500 event at the Wiener Stadthalle. The win not only marks a career milestone but also sets up a semi-final clash with Alexander Zverev, who is set to become world No. 1 on Monday.

De Minaur, currently ranked world No. 10, had previously struggled against Berrettini but has now beaten the Italian for the second consecutive year in Vienna. The match turned in the first set when de Minaur saved a set point at 5-6 and then took control of the tiebreak after Berrettini made a costly error, netting a simple put-away. In the second set, de Minaur saved a couple of break points early and then broke Berrettini in the next game, capitalizing on an embarrassing air-shot from the Italian on a straightforward smash. From there, de Minaur raced to victory in an hour and three-quarters, reaching the semi-finals of the Austrian indoor hard-court event for the third straight year.

Statistically, it was one of de Minaur's best serving displays of the season, as he landed 71% of his first serves and out-aced the big-serving Berrettini 5-4. "That's been an emphasis as of late, and I do feel like I've got in a good rhythm on serve and feel like I'm confident with what I'm doing," de Minaur said. "I maybe didn't serve as well as I would have liked to at the start of the week, but today was a great serving display from me, and you know, hopefully I can keep it going."

With this win, de Minaur becomes the ninth Australian man to reach 350 match wins, joining an elite list that includes Lleyton Hewitt (616), John Alexander (591), Rod Laver (576), John Newcombe (568), Ken Rosewall (546), Phil Dent (414), Tony Roche (364), and Pat Rafter (358).

Earlier, Zverev, who recently lost to de Minaur in the Laver Cup but defeated him in Shanghai, showcased his formidable form by crushing British Wimbledon hero Arthur Fery 6-0 6-2 in just under an hour. "Yeah, 100 per cent, that's the aim," de Minaur said about facing Zverev. "That's the types of matches that you want to be playing, against the best in the world - and right now he's the best in the world. So I'm excited for that. Another battle."

A win over Zverev would move de Minaur back into the eighth and final qualifying spot for the ATP Finals, with only the Paris Masters remaining as a qualifying event before the season-ending championship in Turin. De Minaur is aiming to reach the ATP Finals for the third consecutive year.

In other quarter-final action, Daniil Medvedev secured his place at the ATP Finals for the seventh time by defeating French veteran Adrian Mannarino 6-2 6-3. Medvedev will face world No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals, after Alcaraz beat American Tommy Paul 6-4 7-6 (7-2).
