From olive oil to matcha, soy sauce to sage and onion stuffing, this summer's frozen dessert aisle has apparently declared war on vanilla. In an effort to distinguish which of these novelty concoctions are actually worth your freezer space, one brave soul sampled 99 varieties of ice cream tubs and ranked them from sickeningly sweet to dinner party-worthy.

At the very bottom of the list sits Paxo sage and onion stuffing ice cream, courtesy of Anya Hindmarch's Ice Cream Project. The fashion designer's annual summer collaboration with well-known brands produces nostalgic flavours at designer prices - a single scoop costs £4.50, or you can splurge £16 on a 500ml tub. This year's offerings skew toward roast dinners, including Oxo (which the reviewer couldn't try, being vegetarian) and Paxo. The verdict: it tastes exactly like stuffing, which, as it turns out, is not what anyone wants from an ice cream. Score: Taste 1/10, Value 1/10, Originality 7/10.
