Saturday Night Live decided to tackle the AI industry's recent warnings of doom this weekend, because what's funnier than the potential annihilation of humanity? Cast member Jane Wickline offered her impression of Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, and let's just say the bar for corporate leadership impressions has been set somewhere between 'unsettling' and 'Gollum in a wig.'

Weekend Update host Michael Che - who, like most of us, sounded a little uncertain about how to pronounce 'Amodei' - kicked things off by describing the CEO as having 'stumbled through a press tour' where he seemingly agreed with a former employee's claim that artificial intelligence might destroy humanity. Nothing says 'fun press tour' like nodding along to your own doom prophecy.

Wickline's version of Amodei sported an impressive wig and delivered halting answers that occasionally devolved into full-on Gollum-style exchanges with their dark side. At one point, the fictional CEO confessed, 'AI is the devil and I its maker.' It's the kind of line that would be hilarious if it weren't, you know, possibly true.

Wickline-as-Amodei assured the audience that AI executives 'are all on the same page here: We do not condone what we are doing.' Which is reassuring, in the same way that a pilot announcing 'we do not condone this turbulence' would be.

'AI is not a weapon, it's a tool: A tool for building weapons,' she declared. 'And I urge you to urge me to stop.' Finally, a corporate accountability strategy we can all get behind: blaming the public for not stopping you.

As for the technology's supposed benefits, like potentially curing cancer, the fictional Amodei said, 'Put it this way: In 10 years, there's about a 10% chance that cancer won't be a problem for anyone.' So, a 90% chance it will be? Inspiring stuff. The sketch may have been satire, but the math is all too real.
