Samsung's Galaxy H1 Headphones Are Coming in 2027, Which Is Basically a Century in Tech Years
Samsung is reportedly working on over-ear headphones called the Galaxy H1, slated for 2027, marking its first foray into that market since 2015 - just in time to compete with the AirPods Max, which will be practically ancient by then.
Samsung is apparently dusting off its over-ear headphone ambitions, with code in the Galaxy Wearable app hinting at a new pair of cans that could take on the AirPods Max. According to SamMobile, the upcoming headphones are being referred to as the "Galaxy H1," and they might debut sometime in 2027. That would mark Samsung's first foray into over-ear headphones since the Level On in 2015 - which, fun fact, hit the market before Samsung gobbled up Harman and a bunch of other audio brands.
Now, before you get too excited about the design, the connection status icons in the app just show generic over-ear wireless Bluetooth headphones, so the final look is still up in the air. Samsung's current audio lineup is all about the Galaxy Buds, and it's been conspicuously absent from the premium over-ear game, where the AirPods Max and Sony's XM series have been duking it out.
Apple refreshed the AirPods Max earlier this year with a new chip that powers features like adaptive audio and live translation, while keeping the same look - because if it ain't broke, why not just charge more? When the Galaxy H1 eventually arrives, SamMobile expects it to come with the Samsung Seamless Codec Ultra High Quality (SSC UHQ) codec, which plays nice exclusively with Galaxy phones and tablets from 2023 and newer. It'll likely also support AI assistants like Gemini and Bixby, similar to what we saw in the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro. So, you know, in two years, you'll be able to have a robot voice in your ear that's slightly more futuristic than the one in your phone.
