The NFL's week eight slate delivered a live blog so chaotic it read like a fever dream scripted by someone who just discovered football and amphetamines. Let's start with the Tennessee Titans and Cincinnati Bengals, where Joe Burrow was busy being Joe Burrow: 28/36 for 320 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions. Busy indeed. The Bengals led 29-28 in the fourth quarter after a Titans safety made things interesting when Tony Pollard was tackled in the end zone. Cam Ward fumbled, Cincinnati capitalised, and the Titans clawed back with a Tony Pollard touchdown and a Cam Ward two-point rush to tie it at 21-21. Because of course they did.

In Detroit, the Lions and Vikings engaged in a defensive slugfest that was anything but pretty. Jake Bates doinked a field goal off the left upright. Andrew van Ginkel sacked Jared Goff three times, making Goff's life a living hell. Kyler Murray threw a pick to DJ Reed, then redeemed himself with a 51-yard strike to Jordan Addison and a two-point conversion. But the story was Jahmyr Gibbs, who squirmed through the trenches, broke two tackles, and scored. The Lions also had a scare when linebacker Jack Campbell left on a cart on a back board, players in tears. Detroit got a turnover on downs, because football is nothing if not emotionally whiplashing.

Buffalo and Baltimore gave us the weirdest game of the season. The Ravens lost two quarterbacks, forcing rookie Joe Fagnano into action. He threw a 15-yard strike, then got sacked by Landon Jackson. Welcome to the NFL, kid. Josh Allen unleashed a 49-yard dime to DJ Moore, who wrestled it off a defender. James Cook sped in for a score. Tyler Bass hit a field goal. Tyler Loop doinked one off the left upright. The Ravens had 52 yards of offense at one point. Derrick Henry had a touchdown called back on a holding penalty against Ronnie Stanley. It was a mess, and we loved every second.

Baker Mayfield had stats you will never see again: 0/3 passes for zero yards in a 16-0 win over the Falcons. Bucky Irving ran 27 times for 170 yards, Kenny Gainwell 25 times for 140 yards, and the Bucs racked up 324 rushing yards. In a monsoon. Unreal.

The Jaguars demolished the Colts, with a pick-six from a rookie who took it almost the entire field. The Steelers handled the Browns, Aaron Rodgers found Darnell Washington for 58 yards to set up an easy score. The Jets and Raiders engaged in a shootout, with Braelon Allen running for 142 yards on 19 carries. The Cowboys beat the Cardinals, Kirk Cousins was on fire for Atlanta (17/22, 234 yards, three passing scores, one rushing), and the Lions rallied through Aidan Hutchinson after Jack Campbell's horrible injury.

At halftime, the scores were: Titans 13-14 Bengals, Colts 0-28 Jaguars, Browns 6-20 Steelers. The second half promised to be a nerve shredder. It delivered. The NFL: where defense is optional and punters are the real MVPs.
