Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet Donald Trump in Washington next week, according to rightwing US influencer Laura Loomer, signaling that the White House's traditional hostility toward Ukraine may be softening faster than a Kyiv cheeseburger in a war zone.

In an interview with Loomer, the Ukraine president said he will probably attend the funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham and hold talks with Trump, as the latest version of the Russian sanctions bill winds through Congress. Loomer interviewed Zelenskyy in the garden of the presidential palace in Kyiv - a remarkable move for the online provocateur who previously minimized Russia's invasion and amplified Kremlin propaganda to her nearly 2 million followers.

This week, however, she performed a stunning about-turn. "Just experienced my first air raid in Ukraine. Sirens blaring. This is every day for every Ukrainian," Loomer wrote on X. "I often said I don't care. Looking back, that wasn't very nice of me to say. We need to have moral clarity."

Loomer posted a photo of her one-on-one meeting with Zelenskyy and a clip where she asks about his infamous Oval Office confrontation with Trump and JD Vance. Zelenskyy said his relationship with Trump had significantly improved, calling their brief Vatican chat in April 2025 a "historic moment." Trump praised the interview on Truth Social: "Very good!!!!"

Russia continued its strikes, with a daytime ballistic missile attack Friday killing six in the Kyiv region and an air bomb killing five in Sloviansk. Loomer now supports US sanctions on Russia, arguing, "The United States needs to break Russia's economy until they submit to peace."

This reversal is a big shift for someone who called Ukraine "a country full of Nazi apologists" - a Russian justification for the 2022 invasion. Anton Gerashchenko, a former Ukrainian government adviser, called Loomer's interview "important and necessary," saying it "records a public break with Russian narratives by part of the Maga movement."

Loomer also visited the Dormition Cathedral, hit by a Russian drone in June, and accused Putin of hypocrisy over his pro-Christian image. "I just don't think that you should be allowed to say that you're protecting Christianity if you're trying to drone strike Jesus Christ," she remarked. She met Ukraine's chief rabbi, Moshe Reuven Azman, and toured a McDonald's hit repeatedly by missiles, ordering a cheeseburger and sitting demonstratively outside.

Chief Rabbi Azman wrote, "I had the honour of welcoming @LauraLoomer... The conversation was candid. I told her the truth about this terrible war."
