At WWDC 26, Apple hyped Siri AI and Apple Intelligence like they were the second coming of the smartphone. And sure, they're the marquee attractions of iOS 27. But while everyone was oohing and aahing over virtual assistants, a handful of quietly useful features slipped under the radar - especially for those of us still clutching an older iPhone like a security blanket.

I installed the iOS 27 Developer Beta shortly after the keynote, and here are five under-the-radar upgrades that might actually improve your daily grind.

**1. Extract video frames without the screenshot song-and-dance**

Ever tried to grab a single frame from a video? You take a screenshot, crop out the black bars, save it, and hope it doesn't look like a potato. With iOS 27, you can just tap the three-dot menu on a video, select 'Save Video Frame as Photo,' and - poof - it's in your gallery. Yes, it compresses the file (we're talking 500KB vs. a 6-9MB screenshot), but honestly, the quality difference is negligible. Your storage will thank you.

**2. A lock screen clock that doesn't scream 'LOOK AT ME'**

If you've ever wished the giant lock screen clock would take a chill pill, iOS 27 hears you. You can now switch to a smaller, single-row date-and-time display at the top, with widgets tucked neatly at the bottom. It's cleaner, less cluttered, and shows more of your carefully chosen wallpaper. Plus, media playback controls are now dismissible - just swipe them away like a notification instead of closing the app and waiting for the system to forget. A minor tweak that many have wanted for years.

**3. Share your location for exactly as long as you want**

Apple's Find My app now lets you share your location for a custom duration - minutes, hours, days, or even a specific date and time. Perfect for when you're off buying surprise presents and don't want your spouse tracking your every move. I've been using WhatsApp for this, but these flexible options might finally pull me deeper into Apple's ecosystem. Resistance is futile.

**4. Connectivity Assist: For those of us living in signal limbo**

Living in a patchy network area, I've grown accustomed to manually toggling Wi-Fi on and off like a caveman. iOS 27 introduces Connectivity Assist, which automatically uses cellular data alongside Wi-Fi to keep your connection stable. No more swiping down to Control Center mid-argument. Just go to Settings > Wi-Fi > and enable it. Your sanity will improve.

**5. AirPods Pro 3 get gym-ready with GymKit**

Apple announced custom EQ for AirPods - fine-tuning your sound for the first time on their earbuds. But the real news? GymKit support for AirPods Pro 3. You can now pair them with compatible treadmills, ellipticals, and exercise bikes, just like an Apple Watch. Your heart rate, pace, and other metrics will sync seamlessly, making that gym session slightly less tedious.

Beyond these five, I'm also enjoying the new Liquid Glass transparency options that make the interface look less like a flat UI and more like, well, liquid glass. I'm still on the beta, so expect more hidden gems as I dig deeper.
