In a move that will surprise absolutely no one who has ever tried to sync fitness data across platforms, Google is rolling out an update that finally lets Fitbit users connect their workouts, steps, vitals, and other data directly to Apple Health. As reported by 9to5Mac, the Google Health 5.05 update now allows users to tap their profile icon, select "Partner apps," and choose Apple Health to link their data.

Previously, the relationship was strictly one-way - you could import Apple Health data into Google Health, but not the other way around. This meant relying on third-party apps like Power Sync for Fitbit or Fitbit to Apple Health Sync, or some other convoluted workaround that probably involved duct tape and a prayer.

Google Health replaced the Fitbit app back in May, and it's been a bit of a rocky ride. Users raised concerns about the new AI health coach, the user interface, and other issues - though Google has since addressed some of these complaints, presumably with a mix of software patches and apologies.

But that's not all. Google also announced that US users can now use Smart Health Links to share medical records with a provider or family member. To create a link, you head to the Health tab, choose the "Medical" section, select "Shareable records," and tap the "plus" icon. From there, you can pick which data to include and share it via a URL or QR code - because nothing says "medical privacy" like a QR code.
