Google has announced that comedian Trevor Noah will host its next Made by Google hardware launch event on August 12th, replacing last year's host Jimmy Fallon in a bid to inject some actual humor into the proceedings. The company revealed this in a video that also promises appearances from a veritable parade of celebrities and influencers, including Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper (who was at the 2025 event), Indian cricketer Shubman Gill (who has starred in Pixel ads), Japanese actress Ayami Nakajo (also a Pixel ad alum), and NBA star / Google Performance Advisor Stephen Curry. (Cooper and Noah are also bringing shows to YouTube, because apparently that's a thing now.)

Last year's event, hosted by Fallon, was described by The Verge's own Victoria Song as feeling more like "a live taping of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" than a traditional tech launch. With this year's lineup, Google is clearly doubling down on the celebrity strategy, aiming to reach a mainstream audience that might not otherwise care about the latest silicon. The event, which takes place in New York City, also conveniently starts at 6PM ET, right as the Eastern timezone workday ends - so you can clock out and immediately watch tech announcements instead of doing anything productive.

As for the actual gadgets, the teaser video offers fleeting glimpses of a new phone and smartwatch, and Google has previously teased the Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. Leaked images and specs are floating around the internet like confetti at a parade. But if you're thinking of upgrading, brace your wallet: prices are expected to be higher than before, because nothing says "premium" like paying more for the privilege of owning a phone that will be obsolete in six months.
