If you thought a half-chicken, half-hare was the weirdest thing animated cinema could offer, prepare to meet a 3,000-year-old groundhog with a backwards face who can turn back time.

This sequel to Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness delivers 90-ish minutes of pastel-colored picaresque entertainment that's wholesome enough for the kiddos but packs a plot surprisingly dense for a movie whose lead is literally named for his mixed-species heritage. Chickenhare (more hare than chicken, except for a feathery crown) pals around with Meg, a butch-coded skunk with the superpower of stink and a waistcoat, and Abe, a tortoise who wisely prefers not to run.

Things kick off with an Indiana Jones-style chase involving a scratchy cat named Crolloq, an old school friend (girlfriend?) of Meg's who leaves our heroes in a pit. They escape with a golden spork that proves handy later, because of course it does. Then they're off to find a groundhog that can reverse time, joined by Chickenhare's long-lost half-sister Gina, who is - brace yourself - a harechicken (more bird than bunny). It's all very wholesome, very complicated, and very okay.
