In a plot twist that no one asked for, four men were stabbed in central London on Wednesday, and a woman has been arrested in connection with the attack. The Metropolitan Police swooped in after receiving reports of a stabbing at Endell Street in Covent Garden at 12:27pm.

At the scene, they discovered four men - aged 34, 39, 42, and 52 - sporting fresh stab wounds. The London Ambulance Service, clearly having a busy day, whisked them off to a major trauma centre. Meanwhile, a 47-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and assault. The weapon in question? A pair of scissors, which were recovered at the scene. Because nothing says 'offensive' like a good pair of craft scissors.

Investigators believe the incident was mental health-related, which is a polite way of saying 'this was not a well-thought-out plan.' The condition of the victims remains undisclosed, but we're told they're in the hospital, which is generally not a good sign.

Local workers, ever the vigilant observers, told the Guardian that the woman, believed to be unhoused, was a familiar face in the area, known for her 'unstable behaviour.' They also noted that the victims appeared to be chosen at random - so, a real lottery for anyone strolling through Covent Garden that afternoon.

One victim ran into the 2 Chairs Grooming Room, presumably for a quick shave, but instead revealed a large gash on his back. The Shaftesbury Theatre was also a hotspot for the action, with one witness claiming the woman stabbed three people there before moving down Endell Street.

As of now, two of the four victims have been discharged from the hospital, while the other two remain with injuries that are, thankfully, not life-threatening or life-changing. So, silver linings.

Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart, the area's top cop, assured the public on X that this appears to be an 'isolated, mental-health related incident' and that a visible police presence will remain while evidence is gathered. So, if you were planning a visit to Covent Garden for the street performers, you might also get a glimpse of law enforcement doing their thing.

Witnesses described the woman as 'incoherent' and shouting in what might have been a language the police couldn't quite place. One restaurant manager, Andrea from Da Mario, recognized her, noting she's 'often on the street' and has a history of throwing vodka bottles. Because when you're known for smashing vodka bottles, you're not exactly a stranger to chaos.

Arjan Gjorga, a fish restaurant worker, echoed the randomness: 'It was totally random, just random people. She suddenly started stabbing them.' He also praised the police response, saying they 'reacted immediately.'

In a bizarre twist, the Met also shared some crime stats, perhaps to reassure us all: knife crime offences have dropped 3% year-to-date 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, with an 11% reduction in knife-enabled robberies and a 1.5% reduction in knife-enabled crime causing injury.
