Android Auto and infotainment screens have become standard equipment in almost any car from the past 15 years, but if you have a vehicle from the time before that, you might feel like you're missing out. Fortunately, you can add Android Auto without replacing your entire dashboard.

The easiest way is to buy a wireless screen designed for this purpose. A 7-inch display that connects via Bluetooth to your car can be had for under $50, and it requires no wiring beyond plugging into a cigarette lighter. It mounts on your dashboard and functions just like an original screen.

But there's a cheaper method if you have an old phone or tablet lying around. Install the Headunit Revived or Headunit Reloaded app on the old device to turn it into a receiver for Android Auto, then connect it via Bluetooth to your car. You'll also need a mount, but total cost can be under $20. ZDNET tested this workaround and found it got the job done, though it wasn't as snappy as a built-in connection.
