San Diego's dream of hosting the 2029 Invictus Games has been dashed, as the Invictus Games Foundation picked Daejeon, South Korea, to be the first Asian city to host the international adaptive sports competition. The San Diego bid, a two-year effort led by the City of San Diego and the British American Business Council San Diego, was one of three finalists alongside Aalborg, Denmark, and the eventual winner. Organizers touted San Diego's strong military community and veteran wellness programs, but apparently that wasn't enough to beat out a city that hasn't even hosted before. The Invictus Games bring together wounded, injured, and sick service members and veterans from around the world, using sports as a pathway to recovery. San Diego's bid committee graciously congratulated Daejeon, likely while muttering something about 2033.
