Kiran Kaur, 53, has been sentenced to three years in prison for removing the knife her son, Vickrum Digwa, used to murder 18-year-old Henry Nowak on December 3, 2025. The sentencing at Southampton Crown Court on Wednesday revealed that Kaur took the murder weapon from the scene back to her family home, where it was later found among a collection of ceremonial and other weapons in her son's bedroom.

Digwa, 23, was already serving a life sentence with a minimum of 20 years for the stabbing, which occurred as Nowak walked home after a night out with his football team. Digwa had falsely claimed Nowak racially abused him and knocked off his turban, leading police to handcuff the victim before realizing he had fatal stab wounds. The false claim subsequently triggered riots in Southampton, with at least 25 rioters charged with violent disorder.

Judge Mousley KC noted that a responsible parent would have challenged their son and encouraged him to do the right thing, but instead Kaur concealed the evidence. Prosecutor Nicholas Lobbenberg KC argued that her actions hampered the police investigation and led to Henry dying "terrified, alone and disbelieved." Kaur, who dabbed her eyes with tissues during mitigation, was described by her defense as a pillar of her community with positive character before the incident. Kelly Newman of the CPS warned that those who help murderers evade justice will be held accountable.

Hampshire Police have apologized for their initial actions, which drew global criticism from Elon Musk, and the arrest is under investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
