Axe Attack in Tyers Leaves Three Hospitalised, Suspect Still at Large - Because of Course
A man in his 50s allegedly attacks three people with an axe in Tyers, Victoria, then flees on foot, leaving police to play a very serious game of hide and seek.
In a turn of events that no one asked for, an alleged axe attack in the small Victorian town of Tyers has sent three people to hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the suspect remains blissfully at large.
According to a spokesperson for Victoria police, the alleged attacker, who is known to the victims (because isn't it always?), showed up at an address around 12:30pm on Saturday. He then allegedly decided that an axe was the appropriate tool for whatever disagreement he had with an elderly man and woman, and a third person, leaving them with serious injuries.
The man, who is in his 50s, apparently felt that his work was done and fled the scene on foot, leaving his victims to call emergency services themselves. Because nothing says 'I'm sorry' like running away after an axe attack.
Ambulance Victoria dispatched a specialist air ambulance and road paramedics, who treated all three at the scene. A man in his 70s and a man in his 40s were rushed to hospital in critical condition, while a woman in her 70s is in serious but stable condition. We're sure they're all thrilled to be the center of this much attention.
Meanwhile, police launched a large-scale search for the suspect, which continued into Sunday. The man was last seen wearing a black and mustard coloured jacket and carrying a black backpack - a fashion choice that we can only assume is an attempt to blend in with the local flora.
Police have warned that he may still be armed with an axe and a handsaw, and have urged anyone who spots him to not approach and to immediately call Triple Zero (000). Because approaching a man with an axe is generally not a great idea, even if you're trying to be a hero.
The search continues, and we're sure it's only a matter of time before this gripping tale of suburban drama reaches its inevitable conclusion. Stay tuned, folks.
