Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the progressive congresswoman from New York, has announced she will be freezing her eggs - and, naturally, she's bringing the internet along for the ride.

The 36-year-old revealed her decision in a series of Instagram stories over the weekend, framing the fertility treatment as a bid to feel 'more in control of my life.' It's a choice that, she noted, she's been saving up for 'a very long time' because apparently reproductive healthcare isn't exactly a budget-friendly line item.

'As women in general, we are not taught about our bodies, we are not prepared for our own lives, whether that is in puberty, whether that is in pregnancy, whether that is in perimenopause, menopause, whether that is in so many different aspects of our lives,' she lamented, in a statement that will resonate with anyone who's ever had to Google a weird symptom at 2 a.m.

But AOC isn't just freezing her eggs; she's freezing them with a side of congressional multitasking. She told her followers she plans to administer her shots in a dressing room before a scheduled ABC interview on Sunday. 'I want you all to see that,' she said. 'Because women can do anything. And I think it's badass that I'm gonna be giving myself shots in the green room, get my glam on, roll out, talk international events, domestic policy, elections, pop out, live my life, do my thing.'

She showed off the medical accoutrements - syringes, alcohol wipes, the works - for a process that involves injecting multiple medications over roughly 10 days or more. She joked about starting an ASMR egg-freezing channel, then, with a slight smile and a warning not to be weird about it, found a spot on her abdomen, exhaled, injected, and declared: 'That wasn't so bad!'

During her ABC interview, Ocasio-Cortez elaborated on the decision. 'In this political environment where this administration is denying reproductive care to women across the country, from abortion rights to the ability to carry out a healthy pregnancy, I think it's important for us as leaders to have these conversations and share these processes, especially for working women across the country and normalize them.'

Her announcement drew predictable applause from the usual suspects. Amanda Litman, co-founder and president of Run for Something, took to X to express gratitude for AOC's 'honesty & vulnerability.' Democratic strategist Xochitl Hinojosa chimed in with a hearty 'THIS' and a thank-you for the bravery. Because in a world where women's bodies are still treated as a political battleground, openly discussing fertility treatments is apparently a revolutionary act.
