A relic from the pre-internet era has resurfaced, and it's not a mixtape or a pair of parachute pants - it's a Mars Bar. A 35-year-old chocolate bar, best-before date 1991, was discovered during a house clearance in Scunthorpe, and it's causing a stir for being, well, remarkably chunky.

Victoria Gordon, the cleaning service owner who found it, posted a photo on social media showing the vintage 62.5g bar next to a modern 40g one. The difference is stark, and the internet, as it does, went wild. "It was nearly as big as my hand, which was kind of why I noticed it," Gordon told BBC Radio Lincolnshire.

Gordon, who runs Pocket Rockets, was clearing out a hoarder's house when she stumbled upon the bar. "Everything we were rooting through was decades old," she said. "This Mars Bar stood out because as I picked it up it was nearly the whole length of my hand. I was like, 'Wow, look at the size of that!'".

Mars Bars are made by US company Mars, Incorporated, which also owns Celebrations, Galaxy, Hotel Chocolat, M&Ms, and Maltesers, plus non-chocolate brands like Dreamies, Hubba Bubba, Pedigree, and Whiskas. The company was founded in 1883 by Frank C Mars, with his mother Elva teaching him to hand-dip chocolate. Mars Bars were first made by hand in Slough, Berkshire in 1932 and are still made there today.

A Mars spokesperson offered a diplomatic response: "Over the last 35 years, we have made a number of updates to our bar sizes and pack formats to reflect consumer demand, alongside considering wider external factors such as manufacturing costs and the price of cocoa." In other words, yes, it's shrinkflation - but it's for your own good, apparently.

Gordon is unsure what to do with the find, but she's not ruling out a payday. "I do post some hoarding videos but I've never had anything go this viral," she said. "It's so fascinating what people find so interesting. I almost put it in the skip [but] I might do a UK tour with it." A UK tour for a chocolate bar? At this point, why not? It's probably the most excitement Scunthorpe has seen in decades.
